On Site Diesel Technician Job Description:
General responsibilities include diagnosing and repairing diesel engines and hydraulic systems on commercial trucks, heavy equipment, and fleet vehicles at client sites. Key responsibilities include diagnosing faults, performing routine maintenance, replacing parts, and ensuring safe and efficient operation of the vehicles.
Responsibilities:
Diagnosing and repairing diesel engines and related systems: This includes troubleshooting issues, identifying faults, and performing repairs on various components like engines, transmissions, brakes, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems.
Performing routine maintenance: This includes performing preventative maintenance such as oil changes, filter replacements, greasing all points, checking all fluids, and ensuring the vehicle is safe to operate. These tasks will be completed in conjunction with a detailed preventive maintenance check list.
Replacing defective parts: This involves removing and replacing worn or damaged components with new ones.
Providing road service: This includes traveling client sites to perform repairs on vehicles that have broken down, or to perform maintenance.
Following safety regulations and procedures: This includes adhering to DOT, OSHA, and other relevant regulations.
Maintaining a company vehicle: This includes keeping the vehicle and equipment clean and organized inside and out. This also includes performing or scheduling preventative maintenance according to the manufactures recommendations.
Using diagnostic tools: This involves using computer-based diagnostic tools to identify and diagnose problems with engine systems.
Communicating with customers and dispatchers: This involves clearly explaining repairs to customers and communicating with dispatchers to coordinate road service calls.
Arguing or engaging in gossip with customers is not tolerated.Maintaining accurate records: This includes documenting repairs and maintaining records of vehicle maintenance.
Making hydraulic hoses: This includes making hydraulic hoses on site to manufactures specifications.
Maintaining inventory levels: This includes monitoring inventory of parts and fluids in your company vehicle and in the shop.
Qualifications:
Technical skills: A strong understanding of diesel engines, heavy equipment mechanics, repair procedures, and diagnostic tools.
Positive attitude: The ability to bring a positive approach to each situation.
Mechanical aptitude: A natural inclination and ability to work with mechanical systems.
Problem-solving skills: The ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.
Communication skills: The ability to communicate clearly with customers and dispatchers.
Physical endurance: The ability to lift heavy parts and tools. The ability to climb up on, and down from large trucks and equipment.
Experience: Prior experience in diesel engine repair, and construction equipment repair in the field.
Certifications: ASE certifications or other relevant certifications are preferred.
Driving skills: A valid driver's license, a clean driving record, and a valid MA DOT medical card are required.
Additional Notes:
Welding experience or the ability to perform basic welding repairs is a plus.
